out of sadness

Sometimes you wait too long..and your chance is gone.
Sometimes you think too much..and your chance is lost.
Sometimes you're ready when the other person's not..and you never got a chance.
Sometimes both of you want it but most of your friends don't..so the chance is forced to die.
Sometimes you say the wrong things..
Sometimes you're there when you shouldn't be..

Sometimes..
it just won't happen..
no matter how right it seems.

Love is..the right person at the right time.

jobstories.com

Heard beautiful stories during dinner. Courtesy of Rohan and Jasim. I'll spare the details but they were stories about..well, less-qualified people doing really well in their respective careers and/or fields. And by less-qualified I mean they don't have the usual degrees and such. Mostly they only have their SPM certificates (this is assuming that they haven't lost theirs).

I found out that these people have one common trait when it comes to working; they do their jobs. All the small tasks that you and me and most degree holders don't wanna do, these guys lap it all up. You don't wanna use that pc 'cos it has Linux instead of Windows? Give it to these guys. You won't work 'cos some machine in your office ain't working and it's too much of a hassle to do things manually? These guys will do those work. These days people only use vacuums and not brooms anymore? Give the brooms to these guys. And in time, they learned a thing or two (I suspect a lot more) that most degree holders won't ever learn.

The 3 guys I heard about tonight;
i) earn RM7k at age 31
ii) earn RM20k+
iii) is a fellow at some specialist institution/society. Members of this society include Professors and aristocrats from overseas (the UK and Germany, not just some third world countries, mind you)

All because they do whatever it was that they were assigned to do.

These days it seemed whenever we talk about working we emphasized too much on marketability, ability to speak in certain languages, pr skills, politicking, orang dalam, etc, etc. These guys prove that to work is to..well, work.

To Madeira

People who are in love usually say things like; "now I have a reason to wake up in the morning every day..." or whatever. Now I have a reason to wake up in the morning every day (or stay up all night, whichever is applicable): Championship Manager 2001/2002. There are later versions of this highly addictive game but this one suited me best I guess. Play it and learn to love it, an you'll soon have a hint of what a mild heart attack feels like. Flashing texts don't get much more exciting than this. Once you start playing it, there's almost always only one way to stop: lose the CD. Good stuff this.

buat pembuli dan pengganas

pukullah dia
lebih kuat dari dia memukulmu tadi
..dan tunggu
pukulan balas lebih kuat lagi daripadanya.
Teruskan pendirianmu

Teruslah berperang
moga berbahagia

sakiti dia
dengan kesakitan yang lebih perit
..kemudian tunggu dia membalas
agar kau lebih sakit lagi
Teruskan menyakiti

Teruslah berperang
moga berbahagia

Fitnahlah dia dengan kata-kata
yang lebih merangsangkan
daripada kata-katanya terhadapmu tadi
..kemudian tunggu pula
perkataan seterusnya dari dia

On Friday I watched 'Hotel Rwanda' at the Asia-Europe Institute, UM. It was one of the films screened by UNHCR and ICRC to increase awareness about refugees. Hotel Rwanda is based on a true story and tells of the conflict between two slightly different looking group of people living in Rwanda. I don't even know if they're the same race or not, but one group is the Hutu and the other the Tutsi. The difference in appearance is so minimal that even among themselves they had to rely on identification documents to determine which is which.

Anyway, the story dwells around this Hutu guy; Paul Rusesabagia who runs a Hotel Milles Collines and who is married to a Tutsi. During the time of conflict when the Hutus rule and killed hundreds of thousands of Tutsis; Paul's establishment, from a 4-star hotel turned into a refuge camp for more than a thousand of (mostly) Tutsis and Hutus not wanting to be involved in the conflict and, of far more importance; not wanting to be slaughtered. Long story short; Paul and his hotel 'guests' soon succeeded in getting behind the line of the Tutsi rebel army; the designated good guys in the film.

As of today, most of Paul's guests are safe I presume. I just hope that the Tutsi rebels, seemingly getting the upper hand in the conflict won't start slaughtering the Hutus as a means of getting a payback. As it so happens; the Paul guy is now living in Belgium, so there's no telling whether or not peace has been achieved in Rwanda.

Human beings are suckers for getting a payback. After what happened to the NY Trade Center, I believe the Americans have killed and/or cause the killings of more people than the 9/11 tragedy did. All in the name of justice. And all in the name of peace. The terrorists have responded with their beheadings and suicide bombers.

And all this will not stop until lots and lots more people die. Or until someone is big enough to say, "let's stop this. Because we're better than that. We're better than them..."

Well, dream on.

love at first laugh

Bila saja kulihat tawamu..
hati jadi lapang,
jalan di depan luas terbentang
..seisi dunia mampu kutawan.

Went to some weddings. Saw some faces. Gained some memories.

On an entirely different note; Nicol David is a (no-longer-junior-albeit-at-a-very-young-age) world champ. Woohoo! Being the sucker-for-victory Malaysian, I am very proud (Malaysia Boleh, Stone! Hehe). I heard that there's every possibility that she'll improve her ranking to world no. 1. Hopefully she stays there much longer than the average racquet-holding Malaysians.
