Heard beautiful stories during dinner. Courtesy of Rohan and Jasim. I'll spare the details but they were stories about..well, less-qualified people doing really well in their respective careers and/or fields. And by less-qualified I mean they don't have the usual degrees and such. Mostly they only have their SPM certificates (this is assuming that they haven't lost theirs).
I found out that these people have one common trait when it comes to working; they do their jobs. All the small tasks that you and me and most degree holders don't wanna do, these guys lap it all up. You don't wanna use that pc 'cos it has Linux instead of Windows? Give it to these guys. You won't work 'cos some machine in your office ain't working and it's too much of a hassle to do things manually? These guys will do those work. These days people only use vacuums and not brooms anymore? Give the brooms to these guys. And in time, they learned a thing or two (I suspect a lot more) that most degree holders won't ever learn.
The 3 guys I heard about tonight;
i) earn RM7k at age 31
ii) earn RM20k+
iii) is a fellow at some specialist institution/society. Members of this society include Professors and aristocrats from overseas (the UK and Germany, not just some third world countries, mind you)
All because they do whatever it was that they were assigned to do.
These days it seemed whenever we talk about working we emphasized too much on marketability, ability to speak in certain languages, pr skills, politicking, orang dalam, etc, etc. These guys prove that to work is to..well, work.
