To a good friend
I received an sms one day of the passing away of a friend's father. I did not do anything except recite 'innalIllah.. and Al-Fatihah'. You see, this is the father of a good friend of mine. And I believe that this father of his had treated us, his son's friends so good, to the point that he can be regarded as a friend, albeit a rather quiet one (to me at least. But then again, I'm not particularly good in conversing with older people so maybe it's my fault).
Last night the felos at the college did some work in preparation for a queen's visit. We were provided a rather extraordinary supper: fruits. Upon taking some cut pineapples for myself, I was reminded of my late father. He passed away when I was 11. How I missed this man who liked pineapples a lot. Especially canned ones, for whatever reasons. I guess coming from a village where the majority of people planted pineapples, it must be somewhat a revelation to him, or maybe some sort of pride, that something which might have come from his village had the potential to go around the globe. Go international.
Stone, if you're reading this, I want you to know that I really did not know what to say then, when I received the sms from Pullah. And I know that it's been some time but I still do not know what to say now. And I'm actually writing this posting without a real reason or any sense of knowledge or anticipation of what it can actually do. I know that it can never, ever console you after losing such a dear person. I guess I can say the events of the last few days, what with you asking for my address (I believe to send me a wedding invitation card. Or maybe cards to pass to others), and my encounter with pineapples which made my eyes water prompted me. If it is indeed a wedding invitation you intend to send, I congratulate you in advance and would like to say I'm really happy that you intend to have more happiness in your life.
As peculiar as it may seem; Al-Fatihah. And CONGRATULATIONS..!
...(I thought of putting a smiley here but was unsure which is the appropriate one)...
